Today, we honor all mothers past and present.
We express our gratitude for the love that transcends time, for the immeasurable sacrifices made, and for the countless ways you have shaped our lives.
To the mothers who walk among us, we celebrate your strength and resilience. Your unwavering faith and unyielding determination inspire us to face life’s challenges with grace and fortitude.
To the mothers who have passed on, we carry your memories within the depths of our souls. We remember the warmth of your embrace and the gentleness of your touch.
Your love remains an eternal force that we carry in our hearts.

Today, on National Teacher’s Day, we celebrate more than just a profession — we celebrate a calling. Teachers don’t just teach subjects; they shape futures. They plant seeds of curiosity, water them with patience, and nurture them with belief until they grow into confidence and capability.

HAPPY ADMINISTRATIVE PROFESSIONALS' DAY!

❄️ Trash Pickup Update
Recent snow and ice made many alleys unsafe and inaccessible for trash collection. As weather conditions improve, the Street Department has begun clearing alleys, and we expect full trash service to resume by the end of this week.
We understand the frustration and appreciate residents’ patience as crews work safely through these weather-related challenges.

❄️ Snow Removal Update ❄️
We wanted to share an update with our snow removal efforts.
The recent storm and extreme cold have put heavy strain on City equipment. We’ve lost two plow trucks and other equipment due to mechanical failures due extreme low temperatures and heavy use. Despite this, our Public Works team is working long hours using two backhoes and two tractors with open cabs to continue clearing residential side streets. Progress may be slower than usual, but work is ongoing.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to address these challenging conditions.

🚜 Snow Removal Update – City of Metropolis ❄️
Snow removal efforts that began this weekend are continuing across the city.
Over the weekend, our priority was to ensure that main thoroughfares and designated emergency routes were cleared and passable for emergency services. That work has been completed.
Moving forward, Public Works crews are now focusing on clearing residential side streets. Progress is being made, and crews will continue working throughout the day and over the course of the week as conditions allow.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as our Public Works Department works diligently to address snow removal citywide. Please continue to use caution while traveling and thank you for your cooperation as we work to keep Metropolis safe.

Homeowner Cold Weather Protection
🏠 EXTREME COLD TIPS FOR HOMEOWNERS 🏠
Protect your home during freezing temperatures:
• Let faucets drip slightly to prevent frozen pipes
• Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air circulation
• Know where your main water shutoff is located
• Keep your thermostat set consistently — day and night
• Ensure space heaters are away from flammable materials
Frozen pipes can burst quickly — prevention now can avoid costly damage later.

Power Outage & Emergency Preparedness
🔌 BE PREPARED FOR POSSIBLE POWER OUTAGES 🔌
Winter storms can cause outages. Be prepared by:
• Charging phones and battery packs
• Having flashlights ready (avoid candles if possible)
• Keeping extra blankets and warm clothing available
• Checking generators for safe outdoor use only
If you rely on medical equipment requiring electricity, make backup plans now.

Extreme Cold Safety for Residents
🥶 STAY SAFE IN EXTREME COLD 🥶
With dangerously cold temperatures expected:
• Limit time outdoors
• Dress in layers, including hats and gloves
• Watch for signs of frostbite and hypothermia
• Bring pets indoors or provide proper shelter
• Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and those with limited mobility
⚠️ Never use ovens, grills, or generators indoors for heat — this can cause deadly carbon monoxide poisoning.
